Inside a Custom program your coach will
schedule your training around your work, personal commitments and
events -- up to the hour if necessary -- and will update the program as often as
needed within the month. Your coach will also create personalized exercises when
needed for your strengths and weaknesses based on heart rate or power, and will initiate or
schedule contact as necessary.
Custom program pricing
differs by coach level. Be sure to check with the main Wenzel Coaching office
for pricing information on Custom programs with particular Head or
Associate Coaches.

Included Consultation: 3 hours (180
min) per month.
The program includes
three hours
of consultation each month by phone, email or in person when possible.
Consultation at the Custom level can include coach-initiated contact. The consultation time each month with your Wenzel Coach can be used to
answer questions, discuss upcoming or recently completed events or races,
and to help personalize the schedule to your individual needs.
Consultation time is one of the most valuable components of this
program and all athletes are encouraged to take advantage of it.
Additional minutes beyond the original hour will be billed at the
Consultation rate. (In our experience, very few athletes exceed allotted
consultation time each month.)
If you are interested in a combination
program and scheduled one on one training time each month with a coach
local to your area, be sure to check with your potential coach for a
package price.
Program Delivery:
Custom programs
can be distributed to the client as works best for coach and client to
interact. This may mean an Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) file or possibly an
program such as Training Peaks (additional cost may be required for
an online program) or an Excel spreadsheet. The coach can deliver
the program in monthly, weekly or even daily portions as to what
will work best for the client at the given training period.
Program variables: The
Individual level program is based on your goals,
event and personal schedule,
racing category and racing experience (when applicable), riding or racing
region, season start and finish dates, anaerobic threshold, maximum
heart rate, current fitness level and past fitness experience, age,
sex, height/weight ratio, and athlete feedback, among other measures.
Power metering through an SRM, Power-Tap or other power meter may be
used in the direction of your program.
The written program: Each monthly program outlines daily the
workouts suggested for you to achieve your potential as an athlete in
your sport.
The program contains a calendar of exercises scheduled around your
personal work and training availability up to the hour and includes detailed
instructions for
workouts utilized for that training period. The program is sent out in
chunks from one day to up to six weeks depending on what works best for the
athlete. The program will be updated or rewritten as necessary to the
client's needs during the month. A written introduction
may be included that prefaces the concepts and focuses for that that month. The
introduction may contain program period focus explanations, tips, reminders, and answers to frequently
asked questions.
Program combining: For those on a budget but who would still like a Custom program, the
Individual or Semi-Custom program can be combined with the Peak Road program (a one
to two month Full Custom program) for a planned peak in an event that
you choose. In this way, you can follow the Individual or Semi-Custom level program most of
the year, and then purchase a Custom program for only the month or
months leading up to your most important events. Some athletes may
find that the Individual level program suits their needs most of the
year, and that an upgrade to the Semi-Custom level will work for the
extra customization desired in the lead-up to their peak period. Check
with your potential coach if you are unclear about which program level
will meet your needs.
Newsletter: Included as part of the Wenzel Coaching program is a monthly
newsletter illustrating skills, form, and tips for riding and
competing. Critiques of race strategy, advice on how to handle
sickness and injury, and nutritional advice are also included. The
newsletter provides information about upcoming camps and clinics and
special offers for Wenzel athletes and provides individual coach contact information and news.
Nutrition: Nutritional advice and handouts are available to all
Semi-Custom level program
participants. Additional nutritional analysis and consultation are
available at affordable prices. See our nutritional offerings
for information.
Billing: A statement is provided monthly by email (unless
delivery is requested by regular mail). A three-month
commitment is required at startup. The three months can be paid in advance or
a commitment can be made with a credit card on file. There is a
one-time setup fee of $75. See the comparison chart for
pricing.

Peak Programming (Temporary
Custom programs)
Scheduling for a peak performance in an important event.
This is a
one-month Full Custom program that combines science and psychology
along with your personal schedule and goals to prepare you to peak for
an important event you have chosen. Specific training exercises,
planned rest and strategic advice are combined to lead you to a peak
performance. Peak programs can be an affordable way to have a Full
Custom program for your most important events of the year and follow
an Individual level program or Semi-Custom level program for the
majority of the year. (Peak programs are an automatic part of the Full
Custom Program.)
The program cost can be prorated to start other than the first of any month when
necessary. For example, if the event you need to peak for falls in the
middle of the month we prorate each half of the two months the program
falls in. (We can also combine more than one peak program into a
year's calendar.) Call or write for
information or check with your potential coach for details.
