John
Wilk is a USA Cycling Level 2 Coach with a degree in
Kinesiology from California State University East Bay. John brings to
each client an in-depth technical knowledge of training methods as
well as several years of personal experience as an elite level
cyclist racing with some of the best cyclists
in the nation.

John thoroughly understands the drive, determination and training it
takes to achieve your athletic goals. John‘s studies included
coursework in exercise testing and prescription, exercise
physiology, nutrition, and sport psychology. John’s formal education
and race experience have provided him with an intuitive
understanding of training, race tactics and psychology coupled with
the ability to define a rider’s strengths and limiters. These skills
enable him to provide riders with training and racing plans that
will improve their speed and power as they pursue higher racing
goals.
With a detailed knowledge of the Northern California racing culture,
John is intimately familiar with most, if not all of the courses in
this area, allowing him to share with his clients important
knowledge about race tactics and skill sets a cyclist will need for
a particular race. In addition to his technical expertise, John has
first-hand experience with the need to balance training with work
and family life.
John believes that planning, flexibility and time management are
critical components of any successful training plan. John has used
these very same training tactics to consistently earn himself high
place finishes and numerous wins as a Category 1 racer, as well as
the title of 2009 NCNCA Master’s State Criterium Champion. He is
well known in the Bay Area cycling community and has a reputation
for being a highly tactical rider and strong sprinter.
When he is not training on or racing his bike you will probably find
John with his wife chasing their three-year-old son (and future
NorCal cycling star) around the neighborhood on his bike. In
addition John enjoys spending his time watching movies, enjoying a
cold beer and occasionally re-living his days as a skateboarder.
