Michael Hanna, MS utilizes his scientific, work and athletic
experience to help each athlete achieve his or her goals. He holds a
Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition from the
University of Massachusetts and has learned from hands on experience
at Carmichael Training Systems (CTS), the United States Air Force
Academy, and the Children's Hospital of Denver as well. As a result,
clients working with Michael benefit from current scientific methods
of training, lactate testing, altitude training, and sports
nutrition.
Michael’s understanding of the cardiovascular system, nervous
system, biomechanics, diet, hydration, environmental factors, the
body's adaptation to stress, and avoiding overtraining allow him to
design excellent training plans, and to help athletes to follow them
for best effect. Michael operates from the principle that design of
the training plan is only one step in the coaching process however.
Implementation of the program, measuring the athlete's response, and
adapting the training to maximize response are equally important.
Michael has coached athletes to Leadville 100 MTB finishes,
Colorado Best All Around Rider Championships, a Prefecture Junior
Pursuit Champion of Yokohama, Japan, Tour of the Gila Podium
finishes, and many other international, state and local race wins
and championships. Michael is confident working with athletes of all
levels, from competing in the national championships, to entering
their first Cat 5 Cyclocross race, to losing 10 pounds and improving
their life through fitness and nutrition.
As an athlete, Michael has competed as a road and cyclocross racer
since 2005 and has progressed from the beginner to elite level while
maintaining a full time job. Recent results include a top 10 overall
finish and 2nd place stage finish at the Tour of the Gila, a top-3
finish at the Boulder Cup Cyclocross Race and top-10 finishes at the
Jingle Cross Rock.
Michael uses his competitive experience and scientific knowledge
and process to help each athlete succeed, teaching them to
understand the physiological and mental process of training,
competing and winning as needed along the way.
