experience, having raced in and being familiar with nearly every
cycling race available in Oregon and Southern Washington. He uses his
approach as a trained computer scientist to tackle the challenges of
his clients in a methodical way, taking into account each athlete’s
individual needs and time availability to balance training and rest.
Like many cyclists and runners, Rich’s competitive experience began
with track and cross country in high school, and moved on to
triathlon. He accompanied his father on a cross country cycling trip
at age 18 and completed his first triathlon in 1982. Since then, he’s
competed on the road and dirt and has spent time behind the scenes as
well, promoting local road races and criteriums while heading a local
cycling team in Portland, Oregon.
Since 1994 he has dedicated his training knowledge to longer
distances, completing a combination of nine marathons and
ultra-distance races as well as qualifying for Ironman Hawaii. Rich
continues to race today, as a Masters or Cat 2 racer on the road, and
in the Elite category off road. Rich has won the Columbia Plateau
Stage race in the Masters category, many area mountain bike races, and
placed 5th in Cyclocross Nationals in his age group. He recently
placed 3rd at the Brec Epic Mountain Bike Stage Race in his age
group and a has completed
several 24 hour mountain bike races on 4-person teams, winning the
Gorge Games and placing 2nd in Nationals on a Masters team.
