"I have been working with Steven for nearly a year. The program I
follow is set up so that my system is challenged enough to
stimulate gains in fitness and overall strength, but it is done
in a way that is sustainable. I have had injury issues in the
past, but since starting with Steven and Wenzel Coaching, I am
finally feeling confident in my body again. I greatly appreciate
how Steven approaches coaching because there is never any added
pressure, anxiety, or negativity associated with our
interactions. He helps keep me positive and excited about
racing, and is an invaluable resource when it comes to race
tactics. I am glad I made the decision to work with Steven and
Wenzel coaching. I feel strong on the bike and I know my
training will put me in a position to do well in big races."

"In the year that I've been working with Jenni (Gaertner), she has
been consistently attentive and helpful with everything from
tactics to maximizing my training time. As a 36-year-old
professional, balancing work and training can be challenging.
Jenni has been particularly valuable in helping me make gains in
my training even when work and other commitments make squeezing
in workouts difficult. When I started working with Jenni last
year, I had not raced on the road in more than seven years (and
had done just a few Cat. 4 races before the long hiatus). I had
raced cyclocross for the first time about a month before I began
working with Jenni. Since then, I earned my Cat. 3 upgrade on
the road and capped my season by placing 3rd in a local stage
race. I have earned enough points to upgrade to Cat. 2 in
cyclocross and have been competitive in Cat. 1/2/3 fields for
the past few weeks, including winning a small Cat. 1/2/3 field
yesterday. I could not have achieved the foregoing things
without Jenni's guidance. She is an excellent coach, and it has
been a privilege to work with her thus far." ~DG

"Usually its taken me 1 hr 20 minutes at best and yesterday I
smashed that and rode it in just under an Hr....Altogether a great day and I am happy to say thanks to your
guidance. You are the greatest ! Thanks so much. ~ Nichole

"Thanks for making this a good experience for Ryan, it's great

to progress with mountain biking." ~Keith Q. (Ryan's dad)

"Thanks much Gotta tell you, this is by far the most thorough,
comprehensive and intelligent coaching experience I’ve had in 25
years I’m really grateful for your efforts, energized by
process—sincere thanks." ~Tom Krummel

"In January 1979, I had the privilege to be fitted to my bike
by Eddy Borysewicz. At the time, Eddy was new to this country
(he had been a national champion in Poland), and he was soon
seen as the best coach that the USA had ever had. ... it was
clear that I was in the hands of a genius. ... I have always
felt comfortable with my fit, and with two minor exceptions, I
hadn't changed it since 1979. I long took solace that I had been
in the hands of a true master, and if it ain't broke, why 'fix'
it?
Thirty-one years later, I still perceived no fit-related issues,
but with time, our bodies change, as does the knowledge of
cycling physiology. Yes, I can put out plenty of horsepower
while staying smooth at 120 RPM, so what is there to improve? I
knew Scott Saifer to be a smart cookie on a variety of issues, I
asked him to have a go at my fit, and I soon had my answer.
Scott showed that he is a smart cookie on the issue of fit as
well.
While he didn't make any major changes, there were several minor
ones that he did most purposefully. In a few cases, there was
some back and forth, but in all cases, he not only told me what
he was doing, but he also showed me why he was doing it. I
enjoyed a series of small revelations. For example, he observed
that when I would go from the hoods to the drops, one part of my
hand would always touch the bar before the rest of my hand. No
big deal, right? But by making a small adjustment, those two
surfaces are much more parallel just before they touch, with the
net result that the loading that occurs is much more even,
decreasing the likeliness and severity of numbness during the
heat of battle. I could bore you with more, but that is
pointless as everyone will have their own unique experience when
getting fit by someone as talented as Scott." ~ Mark W

"I found Wenzel in an internet search, and the
cross focus and menu of services and pricing caused me to pursue
Wenzel. Then I was introduced to Joe, who I immediately felt a
connection to. He is my age, understands family and job balance,
knows cross and MTB (in fact trains on some of the same areas I have
in Wisc). These things gave me a good feeling about deciding on Joe
as my coach. I started a little late in the season but Joe quickly
got me on track to target cross races in Sept-Dec. His plans fit my
schedule, he coached me out of my over training tendencies, he was
able to connect my training to the demands of cross. In fact in the
past I would push too hard and get sick, which was not a issue this
year for all 5 months including racing, allergies, and 3 changes of
seasons. WOW! I trusted his assurance to stick with the plan, he
had a great balance of encouragement and the realities of training.
He was always very responsive to emails and phone calls ... Thank
you for a great coaching experience.
A huge thank you to Joe
Cieszynski for all his great coaching!! " ~ John H

Thank you Earl & Wenzel Coaching! In just 3 months I have gained a
ton of energy, confidence, and have lost over 50lbs. I feel lighter,

"I have had Roger (Rintala) helping me the last two years with
Leadville. I can't say enough about him. So far as I am
concerned I know him personally, even though we just correspond
over the phone. He is that kind of person. He really cares about
you.... May 31st I had a bike wreck and broke my neck. To make a
long story short, I told Roger I still wanted to ride at
Leadville. I had family that were going go watch me. Roger hung
with me, giving me the encouragement and great training advice
that got me there. I even was bitten by a dog about three weeks
before the race. Had stitches, but I sure didn't let a dog bite
slow me down. Made it to Leadville and had one of the greatest
times I have ever had, finished in 11:58:02. I can't thank Roger
enough. He was a great friend and coach all the way." ~Hal

"In April 2007, I attended the women's cycling clinic in Helena,
MT. I had never raced a road bike, loved to ride, but didn't
know squat about racing. Here we are, June 2009. I just
completed the Elkhorn Classic. Finished 1st in Stage 1 RR, 3rd
in Stage 2 TT, 1st in Stage 3 Crit, 3rd in Stage 3 RR, 2nd in GC
in the women's Cat 4 field. If you would have told me in April
2007 that I would be racing, and winning, a 72 mile RR, I would
have thought you were crazy. If you would have told me I would
be racing in the front third of a peleton of 80 women in a
criterium, I probably would have gotten nauseous just thinking
about it. But here I am. THANK YOU!!!! for giving me the
opportunity to TRY bike racing in Helena in April 2007. THANK
YOU for giving me the skills to do that first race. MC, and
Wenzel Coaching, thank you for giving me a training program that
works and pushes me. I will now be racing in the women's
Category 3 field. Now the work begins." With gratitude, Patricia
Dowd

"Under David’s coaching and the Wenzel
methodology, in the 1st half of the 09 season I’ve been able to;
win 1 race, score 3 top 5 finishes as well as a 4th place in an
Omnium. Thank you David & WenzelCoaching, I couldn’t have done
it without your guidance."
~ Bernard Cobb

Just want to compliment Taitt and Laurel. Holy Cow!!! It was so
awesome. I cannot recommend this clinic enough!! I learned so much
valubale information- Priceless! I am proud to say I have a Wenzel
coach from the great example these two women have demonstrated.
Lee has been wonderful, too. Thanks Again, April Hamlin
~~~
"Just a short note to
thank you for the training program you've put together for me. I
think it's what I've been looking for and needed for a long time.
April marked the fourth anniversary of my getting bike on a
bicycle. During that time, never before today have I ever ridden
for three hours and not finished with legs wobbly with lactic acid
- until today when I did the Push Basic drill for the first time.
I think it's the combination of targets (power, HR, cadence) you
give me that are responsible for this trick. I've read lots about
how you're supposed to train and feel, but this is the first time
it's ever happened." ~James Good
~~~
“I placed 3rd in the 50+ but in a time of 1:46:42 - about 12
minutes faster than last year and beating my PR from July by over
8 minutes. ... In any case it's a great result and a great way to
end the season. ... Let's talk soon about next season!” ~Ray
Anderson

"Knee pain is gone. Good job. Thanks." ~ Chris Baker
~~~
"Thank you ... for your support and encouragement for a great
training program leading up to the Wildflower. I was thrilled to
have reached my goal of finishing around 3 hours and some seconds
13/88 in my age group. I am super excited to reach my next goal of
getting stronger on the bike. I know it will take some hours and
pain, but I am ready!! Thank you." Kim Helgans
~~~
"I have read every book on training and they
are great as far as it goes, but they are not specific enough to
apply to individual training. With James, it's like he's there
with you helping you achieve your training goals. I'm 54 years old
and this is the best damned thing that's ever happened to me. I'm
already getting better and this is the most fun I've been allowed
to have since I was a kid. I'm lovin' it." ~Mendell Patton

Catherine is an awesome coach. I never knew I could
become so fit so quickly. Last weekend, I rode a rider off my
wheel in endurance zone. That felt great! Hills are also much
easier and I suffer less on long rides. Getting a good coach is a
much better investment than fancy bike parts." Ben Skrainka"
~~~
"This program is
AWESOME!!! Thanks to Wenzel & my coach, Julie Hudetz, I
accomplished all of my goals for the 2006 season (made it to cat
2) and I can't wait for 2007.
This past racing season is an experience I wouldn't trade for
anything. I know most of the good results would not have been
possible without the training program and Julie's guidance and
positive encouragement since I began training last fall." ~Patria
Lanfranchi
“Here are some my dramatic and measurable
successes (at least to me): 1. Couldn’t climb short hill out of
the saddle for 8 pedal strokes before HR went to 152BPM before
training. Now can climb same hill for 17 mins out of the saddle
with HR below 134BPM
2. Couldn’t climb Mt. Hamilton with HR below 172BPM, now can
spin/push up (70rpm) Mt Hamilton with HR below 134BPM
3. Improved avg pace for 5 hour ride from 12mph to 15mph due to
bike fit and low level HR training (bike ~1.5mph)
4. Cycle without any joint pain or numbness
…I think the key is 5 months of low HR training and strength
training can change climbing efficiency and speed for someone like
me. Who knows where 1 year will take me. Thanks” ~ Kumar
(survivor of four heart attacks)
~~~
I can honestly say
that before having a training schedule, my "training" consisted of
riding haphazardly and consequently over-training. Being on
your program has allowed me to train effectively and most
important, manage my time. I feel calmer, more focused, and have a
solid training plan for life! – Donna Anderson, Cyclocross,
road and duathlon athlete
~~~
Thanks again for the openness
in communicating. I've been very happy with your tactical and
mental coaching. You definitely have an edge on other coaches
with this. To me this is what sets you apart and makes we want to
stay working with you. I think a lot of coaches can make riders
stronger physically but I think the Pro races will be won on
tactics and mental strength. After this weekend, I can clearly
answer my own question from the beginning of the year "Was I tough
enough". "Hell No!!!" But after training on your program, I'm a
whole lot tougher and it feels great! (And I know there's more
toughness to be built and I look forward to it.) -- Starr
Faulk
~~~
“The big difference in my last few races has been
conserving energy so that I am fresh enough to go with any move on
the last 2 laps, which is the secret to being in position for the
final sprint. I also believe that strictly following your training
plan is making a big difference too. “ -- Chris Hanke, on
improving from 14th, to 8th, to 7th to 4th in his most recent
races
~~~
“I just wanted to
say that I think your training program ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!! It
really fits my lifestyle and it works well with my mental approach
to training. It basically KICKS ASS!” –
Crystal Yap
~~~
OMIGOD!!! I
raced both B and A races last night... I was at the front in the
B race, basically taking it easy!!!!! Then, not only did I stay
in the A race, I attacked SUPER hard twice!! and was able to get
back in and stay there...the slowest I went was on the last lap
when I saw 26 mph...after I had backed off a bit... I looked down
4 times during the race and saw 28, 30, 31, and 29...so I know we
were cooking along...DANG!!!! That's the best I have ever
raced. – Laurel Green
~~~
I
feel like I’m leaving family by not racing anymore and ending my
time with Wenzel Coaching. It is strange and cool at the
same time to feel such a strong connection with people that I have
never met face to face. Your staff (John and Liza) made me
feel like a pro racer during my.. season. I cannot say
enough about what John did for me. He was much more than a
coach when my mother passed away.....he was a true friend…The
whole experience has had a great impact on not only my racing .. but my life as a whole. So with that said I want to thank
you for having such awesome people in your organization and a very
effective program available to the everyday, 9 to 5 working
cyclist like myself that enabled me to tie for the Arizona State
Championship XC points race as well as deal with the personal
tragedy of losing a loved one to cancer. The lessons learned about
myself, the world I live in, and how I can change my personal
reality to achieve victory on the XC course and in life has been
well worth the time,
money, sweat, blood and tears. Thank you for the life changing
experience.......I will never forget it!!!
Sincerely,
Phil Nesmith
